The UIL (University Interscholastic League) is a way for students of different schools to compete in academic competitions such as Science, Maps, Graphs, and Charts, Number Sense, and Ready Writing.
Preparation involves taking practice tests, checking them and trying to learn the information you need to answer the questions correctly. It is a come and go process. You just take practice tests, check them and try to learn what you don't know. I have provided study guides for you to use and help you. Below are some helpful websites and practice quizlet sets. UIL prep classes are before school on Mondays, Wednesday or Thursday 7:30-7:55, after school 4:15-4:45 Tuesdays or you may come into UIL study period on Tuesday, Wednesday or Fridays. Dec. 18, 19 or 20th there will be an assessment to determine our 3 competitors and 1 alternate. Each grade level will have 4 team members participating. You may come as much or as little as you like. Emphasis for the Science contest, for students in seventh and eighth grades, will be placed on knowledge of scientific fact, understanding of scientific principles and the ability to think through scientific problems. The contest was designed to test not only memory but the ability to critically think about science and scientific processes and concepts. Such concepts include, but are not limited t matter and energy, equilibrium, force and motion, physical and chemical properties, the relationship between organisms and the environment, the components of our solar system, the composition of matter and genetics. The contest will build upon the vast body of changing and increasing knowledge described by physical, mathematical, and conceptual models. UIL Middle School Science Tests The UIL Middle School Science Test is divided into two divisions: Science I (Grade 7) and Science II (Grade 8). The test consists of 35 multiple choice questions which you will have 45 minutes to complete. The scoring of the test is as follows: five (5) points for each correct answer, zero (0) points for each unanswered question, and minus two (-2) points for each incorrect or illegible answers.
